The Journey of Legends of Shenzhou Continues
We’re excited to share the progress of Legends of Shenzhou as we continue testing and refining the game! After our initial round of player feedback, we recently conducted our second player test, and the insights we’ve gained have been invaluable in shaping the future of the game.
What We Learned from the First Test
In our first player test, we focused on understanding the core mechanics of Legends of Shenzhou—how players interact with the game, how the dice mechanics work in practice, and whether the flow of the game is intuitive and engaging. While the response was generally positive, we noticed some areas where we could make improvements, particularly around balancing the complexity of the rules and streamlining the gameplay experience.
Enter the Second Player Test
For the second round of testing, we refined the mechanics based on the feedback we received. The goal was to dig deeper into the player experience—what parts of the game felt exciting, and where did players encounter confusion or frustration? This round focused on ensuring that the gameplay was not only engaging but also accessible to a broader audience.
Key Updates and Changes
Pacing & Flow
We worked on improving the pacing of the game, ensuring that the action feels more dynamic. A key takeaway from the first round of testing was that the game could sometimes drag in the middle. We’ve streamlined certain phases to keep the energy up and make each decision feel more impactful.Balance Adjustments
We fine-tuned the balance of character abilities and the role of the dice. By adjusting the chances of certain outcomes, we’ve made sure that the game offers both strategic depth and excitement, while reducing the potential for frustration.Player Interaction
Feedback indicated that players wanted more opportunities for interaction, so we added mechanics that encourage players to engage with one another more directly. Whether it’s through cooperative actions or competitive challenges, we’ve designed new ways to build tension and excitement.Artwork and Immersion
As part of our ongoing commitment to the game’s atmosphere, we introduced additional artwork based on the ancient Shan Hai Jing lore. Players expressed appreciation for the depth of the visual storytelling, and we’re continuing to refine these elements to make sure they enrich the overall experience.
